Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) uses an electrode wire as thin as a hair strand. By passing a high-frequency pulsed current through it, a discharge phenomenon occurs between the wire and the workpiece, which is just like the twinkling of countless stars. In this way, the metallic materials are gradually eroded. Relying on this unique electrical discharge machining method, WEDM can cut out complex and varied shapes on various electrically conductive metallic materials with extremely high precision.

Advantages of Wire EDM Machining

High machining precision: It can achieve a high level of dimensional accuracy, usually controlled within ±0.01mm. Even on some high-precision equipment, it can reach ±0.001mm, which can meet the machining requirements of various precision parts.

Capable of machining complex shapes: Through the precise control of the movement trajectory of the electrode wire by the numerical control system, it can machine various complex two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, such as various special-shaped holes, molds with complex contours

Strong material adaptability: It can machine various conductive materials, including cemented carbide, quenched steel, copper, aluminum, etc. No matter how high the hardness of the material is, as long as it is conductive, it can be machined. This is a great advantage for high-hardness materials that are difficult to process by traditional mechanical machining methods

Good surface quality: During the machining process, due to the concentrated discharge energy and small heat-affected zone, the surface roughness of the workpiece can usually reach Ra0.8 - Ra3.2μm, with good surface quality, which can reduce subsequent machining processes

Small machining allowance: The diameter of the electrode wire is usually very thin, generally between 0.1 - 0.3mm. Only a small amount of material needs to be removed during machining, which can effectively save raw materials, especially important for the machining of precious materials

Applications of Wire Cut Parts

Mold Manufacturing: It is commonly used to machine the cavities and cores of various stamping dies, injection molds, die-casting molds, etc. It can accurately machine complex mold shapes, ensure the accuracy and quality of the molds, and prolong the service life of the molds.

Precision Parts Machining: In fields such as aerospace, automotive, and electronics, it is used to machine various precision parts, such as the blade tenon grooves of aerospace engines, the precision holes of automotive fuel injectors, the precision pins of electronic components

Cemented Carbide Machining: Due to the high hardness of cemented carbide, traditional mechanical machining is difficult. Wire EDM can easily cut and machine cemented carbide, and it is widely applied in the manufacturing of cemented carbide cutting tools, molds

Micro-machining: In fields such as microelectronics and micromechanics, it can be used to machine tiny parts and structures, such as micro gears, micro electrodes, etc., and it can meet the strict requirements for precision and surface quality in micro-machining
